Day of the Triffids : BBC Remake
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pxlsl

I rather enjoyed it. Compared to the original this version focused more on the evils of humanity than the scary rubber plants that walk and eat people. Eddie Izzard plays his sinister part very very well and it's good chewing gum for the brain. Just don't be hoping for any nightmares or anything like that.

    Random observations
1: Anime title: The Day the Earth Moved (isn't that every day, surely?)
2: Spirits in photographs look suspiciously like light refraction and/or dirt on the lens.
3: When the same person keeps taking photos of "Spirits" then it's probably dirt on his lens.
4: I'm waking up in late mornings now and I don't like it.
5: Walking on sheet ice isn't fun at all.
6: I hate potholes in the forest as I nearly dislocated my leg again.
7: I have less debt than before.

    Back to your old noise.

    Bears
A small child who looked a bit like me was colouring something in, or maybe reading, although I do not remember what now. A bear landed in the garden, by the pond, and the child who looked a bit like me was alarmed and started screaming, "a bear! a bear! there's a bear!". The child's mother rushed into the room, but when she saw the bear, she was convinced she saw a heron flying away, as bears were not often seen in gardens in the south of England. Not at that time of year, anyway.

    Wallander

    God, that was bleak.

I can see now why they ahven't made anther series in Sweden now goven that Stefan was killed off and the actress who played Linda Wallander herself committed suicide a few months after that episode orginally aired.

Advice if you lot can be bothered
As part of a seriously wonderful Christmas, I am now the proud owner of an 8GB Ipod touch. (I'm not interested in why I should have got another flavour, or anything else. This is what I have, and what I want advice on.)

I'd like recommendations on two things - what should I fill it with and what should I use to listen to the music? I have the opportunity to broaden my musical horizons, so this is where you recommend things you think I ought to listen to. I'm happy to listen to stuff people recommend, because I know there are a bunch of you out there with much wider ranging collections than me, and I'd like to peer over your shoulders. I am specifically looking for a couple of recommendations though, in the 'sounds a bit like Leftfield - Leftism, and Madonna's Ray of Light album' category, so ambient, trancy? I'm not actually sure of the correct terminaology I'm abusing here.

It's going to definitely be loaded with albums by Tori Amos, Garbage, Billy Joel, Enya, Sarah Maclachlan, Beatles, Beachboys, Tara Maclean, Squeeze, Meatloaf/Steinman, Enigma, Pink Floyd, Doors, Eagles, The Who, Queen, Dire Straits, Eurythmics/Annie Lennox, Sisters of Mercy, Del Amitri, All About Eve, Evanescence and Madonna. People can look at that list and possible get some idea of what I like listening to (or groan in horror at my incredibly uncultured, populist and indiscriminate taste!)

The other thing I would like recommendations on is Headphones. I have a couple of criteria, which are a £20 ish budget, a comfortable and durable pair of in-ear phones which I should be able to wear for about 3 hours without them being painful, and reasonable sound quality. Sound quality does not have to be any better than reasonable, because empirical testing has proved that I can't distinguish between cheap, ok headphones and decent but not insanely expensive 'phones. I can spot the difference between 'bundled with the player' ear buds and Bose £150 and up stuff, but the difference between a £15 set of headphones and a £60 set is basically price tag to me.

Bonus Question - are there any free or sub £1 apps you would recommend for me to have fun with/find insanely useful?

    This year's Christmas haul
    7xHankerchiefs
    Davidoff Cool Water

Elite Beat Agents for the DS
£550 in total as a joint Christmas and Birthday present to help me get back to Japan

Spent quite a lot this year on Christmas but it was worth it. Whole family here for the first time in years so it's all worth it. Nice and quiet affair.

    Safe home in the warm
Darrell and I are both now at home. I'm concerned about my in-laws who are stuck somewhere on the road on the way into Reading. Unfortunately both their phones are off, so there's nothing we can do beyond having hot drinks and possibly warm blankets ready when they finally do manage to make it to us.

ETA: 21.30 They've just arrived safely.

    Snow impacts shop.
Right - Reading Town is completely gridlocked. We're abandoning the car where it is parked, and walking home. It will be a lot quicker, if colder.

    New Year's resolution
Simple one here and it's already started for me, get myself out of debt and saving up. Gone down hardcore street, not buying nothing, not going anywhere avoiding to use the bus. Am down to £760 so with a spot of luck, I'll be finishing the year on less than £600 debt. That'll leave me with £300 a month before I can finally start saving up for Japan which, if I can continue being hardcore saving, that'll take 3-4 months and as always I'm going to have to do a fair bit of travelling (Niigata, Sakai Minato, Kumamoto and Tokyo are the main places I really want to go to.) In Kumamoto I have the opportunity to give my talk about my illness to all the bosses in Kumamoto and hopefully try to sell my potential and get me into a job.

I have a feeling that 2010 is my make or break year.

    Hambone Baby
I am gonna make this a brief one just a'cause I've had writers' block somethin' fierce the last month or so, hence. So, yes.

Basically: Does anyone have the Alternate Who Killed Amanda Palmer album they could send? The one that's all demos and whatnot? That turned out to be one of the casualties in my Media Drive Crash, and I wasn't bright enough to back it up when I downloaded it. (that will be fixed.) My download code doesn't work anymore -- seeing as I already downloaded it in the first place and all. And it doesn't look like it normally even offers a download of it, rather just streaming, so I can't even just re-buy it or somethin'. So, just all like arr. If anyone can hook me up with that, that would be awesome.

Otherwise, not a whole lot is goin' on. My work Xmas party is tomorrow, so hooray! Also, it looks like Dalemas will be on Christmas Eve. Hooray! And Mickey Smitherson made it back home safe and sound after being gone for a week (!), so BIG HOORAY for that. He's my best writer for Kittysneezes -- he can't go off like that! He's also King of Kitty, so y'know, what of his subjects?

    I like things.

    TotC 10 man clear
Eventually (2 and a half weeks of extending the lockout, I think?) I've now been part of killing everything in there. Beasts is mostly a matter of not making stupid mistakes, Jax is fairly easy, Faction Champs appears to depend entirely on what combo of opponents we pick up and is the hardest thing in there, Twins and Anub were completed last night with no more than 4 tries on each. Hopefully, we'll be able to do it all in one raid lockout period after the Christmas break.
